Q&A
Below is some useful information to help you along the way. If there are questions you want answered then we'd love to hear them!
- Will the colour of my printing match the colours shown on my PC screen?
- No, only if your screen has been calibrated exactly the same as our press.
- What if I print my file on my desktop printer? Will the colour look the same?
- No it probably won’t. When you supply your artwork and/or samples we may need to adjust the colours in your file to achieve the correct result.
- Do colours look the same when printed on uncoated paper as they do on Silk or Gloss?
- No, the image will look duller. This is because the ink dots spread more on uncoated paper (known as dot gain).
- What is bleed?
- If you want your printed image to go right to the edge of the page you need to add bleed. Bleed prevents any unprinted edges showing once the final document has been trimmed.
We recommend adding a minimum of 3mm (5mm if possible) all round the page if you want to avoid white edges.
- What are Pantone colours?
- The Pantone Matching System (PMS) is a system used internationally by the printing industry to specify exact colours. Each PMS colour has its own reference which ensures consistency. The pantone system also provides references for metallic, flourescent and opaque inks.
